Vilmaria Maldonado, a Lowell mom of four who worked for various non-profit organizations, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 28, according to a GoFundMe created to raise money for her "final farewell."
"Chispi loved to be involved in the community helping in any way she could," her obituary said. "She gave of herself to those in need."
Vilmaria worked as a CNA, social worker, and non-profit advocate, according to her Facebook profile.
Only days before her death, Vilmaria was making plans for her future. She went on a weekend trip with her boyfriend and seemed primed for her next adventure.
"Who is interested [in] going to the mountains?" Vilmaria asked her Facebook friends on Tuesday, July 25.
Vilmaria loved animals as well as people, with a special affection for horses. She took every opportunity to rescue an animal in need, her obituary said.
Vilmaria's son Justin Maldonado took to Facebook to write a farewell message and encouraged people to donate to a GoFundMe created to raise money for his mother's funeral expenses.
"Our mother was taken from us way too soon, she is no longer suffering," Justin wrote. "She was mama lama to us four boys, but she was a mother to so many others for so many years."
